Camouflage is the biological ability of a DNA Alternate to alter their color, consciously changing their skin pigmentation to exactly match whatever it is they are surrounded by. Under the Alternate's transparent outer skin are two cell layers that contain red and yellow pigments (chromatophores). Below the chromatophores are cell layers that reflect blue and white light. Even deeper down is a layer of brown melanin. Levels of external light and heat, and internal chemical reactions cause these cells to expand or contract. Heat sensors and DNA Alternates with enhanced vision would still be able to detect them, however. It would be unlikely that anyone without heat sensor equipment or superhuman vision would see them. Those with mental abilities like telepathy may detect their thoughts, but pinpointing them with their physical eyes would be impossible.
